I'm a retired electrical engineer. Decided to have the thing apart. The motor is a basic 3 wire induction motor with capacitor for starting.
Threw all the electronics away! Wired to capacitor. It appears the thermal trip is inside the motor itself so still in circuit. All's good now. I control the pump using a simple mechanical timer. My system is v as in France. Hope that's some use.
